Minecraft project brings urban planning closer to children and young people

More participation and agility in the development of the digital city: The CityLab Berlin brings the city’s society, administration and research together to jointly design and implement projects for Berlin's digitalization. The aim is to test agile methods for public administration and to develop demand-oriented Smart City solutions for and with Berlin's citizens.

con terra is represented together with the Technology Foundation Berlin in the CityLab Berlin with the project "Berlin Minecraft".  The project illustrates how children and young people can playfully gain access to the complex topic of urban planning. This makes it possible to obtain valuable impulses for e-government processes from the younger population as well. con terra generated the data required for the project for the Minecraft model from open data using FME technology.

The CityLAB is an experimental laboratory for the city of the future. Here, representatives from government, civil society, academia and start-ups collaboratively develop new ideas for how to both ensure and enhance the livability of Berlin as a city. The CityLAB combines elements of a digital workshop, a co-working space and event space into a single location where participation and innovation are jointly pursued. We see digitalization as an opportunity to re-think existing processes, dismantle social barriers and create new forms of civic participation.
