con terra releases new version of security.manager NEXT

Making sharing data smarter, easier, and more secure

Muenster, Germany – con terra GmbH announces the latest version of security.manager NEXT, the solution for extending ArcGIS with fine-grained access control. It now provides even more support for GIS administrators in the efficient distribution of data, through full automation and the use of a highly efficient rights model.

As with the previous generations of security.manager, ArcGIS map and feature services can be secured on a group-specific basis at layer, feature, field and spatial level. This allows GIS administrators to provide their users with exactly the information they need without having to maintain redundant data or service structures. In addition, complex data protection requirements can be easily met with the software.
security.manager is being used by many customers globally, helping to make a measurable difference by improving the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of their day-to-day operations, from small municipalities to large multinational companies.

An exemplary success story is the City of Winter Park in Florida, which is using security.manager to implement fine grained control over department-centric ArcGIS Web applications. While these applications can be accessed by any City employee, users can only see data that they have been granted access to. This is achieved by using security.mananger to create security roles that mirror the activities to which staff are assigned.

For example, if someone’s duties are limited to collecting hydrant flow data, the admins create a role called “Hydrant Flow Inspector” and limit edit access for that role to a single layer (i.e., hydrants) and specific attributes relevant to that person’s workflow. The City has also extended its use of security.manager to implement more effective centralized work order management.

Keith Gerhartz, City of Winter Park, said “without security.manager we would only be able to achieve fine level control by creating a large number of apps and a large number of map services or web maps. The end result has been improved control and functionality with reduced cost.”

Thanks to close cooperation with customers such as the City of Winter Park, the latest version of security.manager NEXT has been extended with many detailed improvements as well as highly requested features, including control over individual editing permissions, offline support for field operations, and use of shared instances to save resources.

The latest version of security.manager NEXT is being showcased at the Esri User Conference 2021. Further information can be found at www.con-terra.com/securitynext.

– con terra UC 2021 Message –

security.manager: making sharing data smarter, easier and more secure.

In a world where the need to share information is increasingly important, many organizations have valid concerns about the security of their data. The reluctance to provide online access to data is understandable, as the level of access that individuals should get can vary widely. Some sensitive data may be inappropriate for some groups, while for other groups it is essential for them to carry out their day-to-day jobs. The result is that organizations often end up slicing up their data and publishing multiple, redundant versions of it, creating a data management nightmare just to satisfy the needs of all their stakeholders. Or worse, they lock up the data completely, paralyzing progress.

This is where security.manager can make all the difference.

security.manager is an off-the-shelf product developed by con terra, an Esri Platinum Partner based in Germany. security.manager extends ArcGIS Enterprise, providing additional access control on ArcGIS services. It allows users to access data provided by a map or feature service, but only in strict accordance with security.manager access control policies defined by the GIS Administrator. This means that different users will experience different content for a specific service, all based on their organizational group.

security.manager provides the ability to implement fine-grained access control rules within a service. This includes spatial restrictions and control over access to individual layers, features or attributes of a service, as well as editing capabilities. In this way, organizations can explicitly define who gets to see what in any of their published spatial services. security.manager ensures specific content of a service is only available to those who require it, so sensitive data is protected while making it available to those who need it most.

As an added benefit, security.manager reduces the need to publish multiple services and apps to satisfy disparate user requirements. This reduces the efforts and resources required to serve different content to various user groups by removing the need to slice up data and publish multiple, redundant services.

security.manager is designed for all organizations that require assurance that their data is made available to appropriate audiences or applications in a way that is controlled yet transparent, secure yet flexible. Customers using security.manager include national mapping agencies, National, State and Local Government, public safety as well as commercial sectors such as insurance, oil and gas exploration and telecommunication companies.
During the 2021 Esri User Conference, con terra is highlighting the benefits of security.manager to all ArcGIS users.
Stop struggling. Start sharing.
